THE MOMENT
She got into the trash. It nearly cost her life.
Nellie got into the trash can that was tucked away inside a closet. She became seriously ill and developed aspiration pneumonia. At the veterinary hospital, I asked a question that seemed so obvious:
"Why isn't there a trash can that locks?"
The veterinarian looked at me and said, "Invent it. We'll sell it."
I went looking for one. There wasn't one.
So, we built it.
THE BIGGER PROBLEM
We secure everything else.
Why not the trash?
We lock cabinets. We secure medications. We put safeguards throughout our homes. Yet the trash can, filled with things pets and young children shouldn’t reach, is often left accessible.
TRASHCAN’T started with Nellie, but the problem is much bigger than one dog.
THE SOLUTION
A trash can that locks itself.
TRASHCAN’T automatically secures after use, helping keep pets and young children out of the trash without adding an extra step to your routine.
Simple for people. Difficult for pets and kids.
BUILT AROUND A SIMPLE IDEA
Protection shouldn’t add another step.
The goal wasn’t to create another lock you have to remember to use. TRASHCAN’T was designed so the protection happens automatically.
1
USE IT
Open the trash can as you normally would.
2
CLOSE IT
When you’re done, simply let the lid close.
3
LOCKED
The locking mechanism automatically engages when the lid closes.
